Why storage matters
Compostable cups and containers perform best when stored correctly. Heat, humidity, and direct sunlight can weaken plant-based linings and cause lids to warp. Following a few simple rules protects your stock and keeps your service running smoothly.
Ideal storage conditions
- Store in a cool, dry place between 10°C and 25°C
- Keep products in original cartons until use
- Avoid stacking more than six high without a pallet base
- Rotate stock using first-in, first-out (FIFO)
Paper cups and lids
Branded paper cups should remain sealed in their inner sleeves. Once opened, use within 30 days in busy kitchens or 60 days in low-volume sites. Match cup sizes with the correct BioPak or PLA lid series — a loose fit increases leak risk during transport.
Bagasse and kraft containers
Nested bagasse clamshells can absorb ambient moisture if left near dishwashers or steam lines. Kraft salad boxes should stay flat; pre-folding weakens corner scores. Do not store compostable packaging beside strong-smelling chemicals or cleaning products.
Before service checklist
- Inspect a sample from each new delivery batch
- Confirm composting logos are visible for customer communication
- Train staff to separate compostable waste at clearing stations
- Record batch numbers for traceability
Report any cartons with crushing, moisture damage, or missing items within 48 hours of delivery so we can arrange a replacement under our quality guarantee.
